Learning French vocabulary

In French the difference between a pass and a good mark is almost always in the accents and the articles.

Accents are not decoration

é, è, ê, à and ç change the meaning and the pronunciation, and they are marked wrong in a test. The annoying part is that they are awkward to type on a phone, so people skip them while practising and learn the word wrong.

Le, la or l'

Learn the article along with the word. Watch the words starting with a vowel, where le or la becomes l' (l'école, l'hiver). That is one of the places where a half-learned word still goes wrong.

Verbs on their own

Irregular verbs are not vocabulary, they are sequences. Practise them in order and separately from your word list; they need more repetitions than an ordinary word.
